Health Geography – A Short Course
PALs · PRECISE Network (King's College London) · The Global Health Network Training Centre, University of Oxford · Funded by UKRI GCRF
Health geography links health and disease outcomes to the socio-cultural and physical environments and places that generate them. Learn how geography mediates health outcomes, how to disaggregate health data in space to reveal new insights, and how to design more precise, locally-tailored public health interventions. Material is based on findings from PALs published work.

Geographical Access in Healthcare – A Short Course
PALs · PRECISE Network (King's College London) · The Global Health Network Training Centre, University of Oxford · Funded by UKRI (MR/P027938/1)
Geographical proximity to health services is a known determinant of access and better health outcomes. Learn how GIS is used to quantify spatial access to care, measure disparities across populations, and support evidence-based planning. After this course you'll have the core skills to progress to advanced spatial modelling in health geography.

Environmental Epidemiology Short Course
CeSHHAR Zimbabwe & Midlands State University · In-person workshop
A hands-on short course for researchers, public health professionals, and students investigating how environmental exposures affect health, with a focus on maternal and newborn outcomes. Held for the first time in April 2026 in Harare, drawing participants keen to strengthen causal-inference and environmental exposure analysis skills — and now established as an annual fixture on the PALs training calendar.
2026 edition details (completed):
20–22 Apr 2026 Cresta Lodge, Harare USD 300 In-person
Environmental Epidemiology Causal Inference DLNM Cohort Study Design Heat & Air Pollution Maternal & Newborn Health
What the 2026 cohort covered: developing causal research questions on environmental exposures and health outcomes; applying Distributed Lag Non-Linear Models (DLNM) to analyse time-varying exposures; using cohort study designs to assess long-term environmental effects; and evaluating combined exposure effects such as heat and air pollution.
Delivered by: Ms. Federica Nobile & Ms. Emanuela Carloni (Environmental Epidemiologists) and Prof. Massimo Stafoggia (Climate & Health Research Specialist), organised by CeSHHAR Zimbabwe and Midlands State University.
The dates, venue and fee above are for the completed 2026 edition. This course runs annually — the call for applications for the 2027 edition, with its own dates, venue and fee, will be announced in April 2027. Registration is not yet open.
